Muhammad Baqir Al-Sadr

Seldom has there been an Islamic scholar in modern times with the breadth and depth of vision, which the writings of Muhammad Baqir Al-Sadr so plainly demonstrate. Yet, the immense contributions made by Al-Sadr during his relatively short life-span (1933-1980) remained confined largely to Arabic readers, and therefore the decision was made to redress this imbalance, by publishing an edited and updated version of “Our Economics”, which is just one major contribution of this prolific writer.
While the late author’s works extend to several areas, including philosophy, logic, politics and jurisprudence, this book looks at the foundations of economic thinking from an Islamic perspective, so that English-language readers may see at first hand the thoughts and arguments of this great thinker, in elucidating Islam’s economic principles and concepts, as well as the objective and detailed comparisons made with capitalism and Marxism.
In this work, Al-Sadr took it upon himself not merely to study various aspects of alternative economic doctrines and systems, but also to dig deep and far into their philosophical and historical roots, as well as to make linkages with related fields such as sociology, psychology and politics.
